IFEG Programs
IFEG operates through three program pillars: Research & Publication, Capacity Development, and Dissemination & Collaboration.
1. Research & Publication
a. Case Autopsy
Case Autopsy is IFEG's core research method. It examines past decisions in the public sector using available secondary evidence—reports, audit findings, news, and official documents. The goal is to identify patterns in assumptions, alternatives, and reasoning that contributed to outcomes. The method distinguishes between documented facts, analytical reconstruction, and researcher hypotheses.
b. Working Papers & Decision Briefs
IFEG produces written outputs based on its research agenda. Working Papers present research findings in depth. Decision Briefs summarize key insights for practical audiences. All publications are made available openly.
c. Reasoning Library
The Reasoning Library is a structured repository of case annotations. Each entry follows a consistent schema:
Case → Context → Decision Point → Information Available → Assumptions → Evidence → Alternatives → Dissent → Decision → Implementation → Outcome → Anticipation–Reality Gap → Candidate Explanation → Lesson.
The library distinguishes between documented facts, analytical reconstructions, and researcher hypotheses. Absence of evidence is not treated as evidence of absence.
2. Capacity Development
a. Research Fellowship
The Research Fellowship is a 10–12 month program for individuals seeking structured experience in governance research. Participants contribute to Case Autopsy, Reasoning Library development, and publication drafting under supervision. The program is designed as a learning experience rather than formal employment.
b. Public Literacy Program
IFEG offers a non-formal literacy program for the general public. The program introduces basic concepts of reasoning, assumptions, alternatives, and decision-making through case-based discussions. It is not a certificate program and does not confer academic qualifications.
3. Dissemination & Collaboration
a. Webinars & Public Discussions
IFEG organizes occasional public discussions on governance and decision-making topics. These sessions are open to the public and designed to facilitate exchange of ideas.
b. Published Articles
IFEG publishes articles on its website and selected platforms to share insights on governance and reasoning.
c. Collaboration
IFEG engages in research collaboration with academics, practitioners, and institutions. Collaboration takes the form of knowledge exchange, joint discussions, and occasional research cooperation.
Note:
IFEG programs are primarily delivered through internet-based platforms and designed for small-scale operation. Program availability depends on capacity and resources. Not all programs run continuously. Details are updated as programs develop.
